Getting started
By the end of this guide, you will have a knowledge base that your AI assistant can read and maintain. It takes about five minutes.
1. Create a project
After signing in, open Projects and create one. Use the name of something you are actually working on, such as “Customer portal” or “Team conventions.”
Everything in Deerlight belongs to a project. You can also create subprojects. Conventions in a parent project remain available to its children, so placing shared team conventions at the top and concrete projects underneath is a useful starting structure.
2. Connect your AI assistant
Open Connect, create a credential, and paste the command shown on the page. Claude Code and Codex have one-command setup; other clients receive general configuration instructions.
See Connect an AI assistant for details.
3. Write your first document
Open Documents and create one. Any useful material works, but the highest-value starting point is something you do not want to explain twice:
API names in this project use hyphens, not underscores. Two payment callback fields are historical exceptions because an external system still relies on their old names.
4. Let the assistant read it
Return to your AI assistant and ask:
What documents are available for this project in Deerlight?
It should list the document you just created. From then on, the assistant can read that convention instead of asking you to repeat it.
5. Let the assistant write back
An assistant can also save organized material directly:
Turn the points we just clarified into a document and save it in Deerlight.
Documents can be written directly. More compact knowledge proposals enter Review first and become official only after you approve them. See Review.
